Overview

Rhododendron Trek is one of the secluded destinations in the Annapurna region trek which offers astounding views of the Annapurna Himalayas. Navigate your way through the desolate parts of the Annapurna region by exploring the Gurung settlements of Ulleri, Ghorepani and witness the magical Khayar Lake.

The Rhododendron Trek leads you Khopra -Khayar lake through the Rhododendron and Magnolia flowers which bloom during the spring, which sits in the lap of the Himalayas and stands out in the rugged terrain as a gem. Starting about 200 km from Kathmandu at Pokhara, The trek also explores the prevalent Buddhism and Hinduism culture in the quaint villages The ethnic groups residing here are of Tamang, Gurung, and Chhetri communities.

The Rhododendron Trek is to witness the grandeur of 3 major view points. Poon Hill, Muldai and Khopra as wel as Khayal Lakes and natural hot water spring. if you want to further explore these tracks, then take the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Annapurna Panorama trek, Ghorepani Poonhill Trek, or even the Annapurna Circuit Trek.

Trip Itinerary of Rhododendron Trek

Day 01: Arrival

Accommodations

Hike and Bike will arrange the hotel accommodation in Kathmandu 3* category and teahouses (Mountain hut) during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional. However, teahouses in most places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations. Regarding the budget, the hotel accommodation can be upgraded and downgraded in Kathmandu.

Meals

We can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.) During our trek. Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.

Electricity facilities in trekking lodge

Mostly place they have hydro power line but some place you will have solar power system. You will have battery charging facilities in mostly tea house; for these facilities you may need to pay some money (cost about USD 1 for 1 hour charge).

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

Once you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport of Kathmandu, you need to go through custom formalities. You will find our representative waiting for you with a placard displaying your name. You will be transferred to the three star category hotel in a private vehicle for comfortable stay.

Day 02: Drive or fly to Pokhara. (900m)

Distance from Kathmandu to Pokhara is 200 km. These two popular cities are linked together by Prithvi Highway. Early in the morning, We will follow the meandering path that offers exquisite views of green hills, Trishuli River and forest. We will reach Pokhara in about 5 hours. You can go for boating in Phewa Lake in the evening and row the boat by yourself to reach the Island Temple of Tal Barahi that exists at the middle of Phewa Lake. Stay overnight in hotel.

Day 03: Drive from Pokhara to Birenthanti and trek Ulleri. (2100m). 5hrs

Taking breakfast early in the morning, we will take an hour long drive and pass through Lumle village with scenic view of Annapurna at the backdrop to reach Nayapul. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek begins from Birenthanti. We will follow Modi River and pass through settlements of Ramgai and Sudame from where we will choose the escalating path uphill to Hile from where we will proceed to Ulleri Stay overnight in Ulleri.

Day 04: Ulleri to Ghorepani (2860m) 4 hrs

We will cross the rhododendron and oak forest and choose ascending path to Nangethati. Climbing further through oak and spruce forest that is rich in wildlife and bird views, we will reach Ghorepani where we will stay overnight.

Day 05: Trek from Ghorepani to Dobato. (3349m) 6hrs

1 hour of casual trek will take us to Poon Hill (3210m). We will enjoy the best sunrise view in Pokhara from Poon hill. We will also be rewarded with panoramic views of mountains including Dhaulagiri (8167m), Annapurna I (8091m), Nilgiri (7040m), Annapurna South (7219m),Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7555m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Hunchuli (6441m), Machhapuchhare (6998m), Tukuche peak (6920m), Dhampus peak (6012m) and other surrounding peaks and mountains. We will return to Ghorepani and pass through Rhododendron, pine and juniper forest to Deurali and head towards Dobato for overnight stay.

Day 06: Trek from Dobato to Chistibung. (3026m) 4hrs

We will walk through the Rhodendron forest enjoying with the view of mountains, landscape heading towards for overnight stay.

Day 07: Trek from Chisitbung to Khopra danda. (3660m) 4hrs

We walk to our major destination for the day, the Khopra ridge. We venture through upper Chistibang first, cross small streams and wooden bridges to reach Chistibang. After having lunch here, we head to Khopra. Along the way, we can enjoy the mesmerizing views of the scintillating Himalayas in the Annapurna range and the Kaligandaki river valley. At Khopra, even short walks offer you great viewpoints of the surrounding landscapes.Overnight stay at Khopra.

Day 08: Excursion to Khayar lake and back to Khopra.

Khayar Lake is the ultimate destination for the trek. We can explore the outskirts of the lake along with its major premises. The lake sits in the lap of the mountains and provides a tranquil view of the surrounding. Khayar Lake, also known as KhayarBarah, is a revered religious site for Hindus. The major attraction happens during the time of JanaiPurnima. The lake provides surreal scenery of the nearby mountains as well. Overnight in Khayar Lake.

Day 09: Trek from Khopra to Narchyang(1510m) 6hrs

From Khopra, you get on a descending trail that takes you through lush rhododendron and pine forests. The trek for the day is a pleasant one as the surreal views of the landscapes offer you continuous company. Finally, you reach Narchyand Village. Overnight stay at Narchyang.

Day 10: Trek from Narchyang to Tatopani Natural hot spring) 1190m) 3hrs

From narchyang, will be short distance to Tatopani which is famous for offering dips into the natural hot water springs. These hot water springs provide ample time to relax and reflect on the surroundings.

Day 11:: Drive from Tatopani to Pokhara.

From Tatopani, get on a vehicle and head towards Pokhara. The drive goes through the rugged terrain and challenging roads at times. The drive normally lasts for a few hours and upon arrival in Pokhara, head to your hotel. You can also explore the tourist attractions of the city if time permits. Overnight stay at a hotel in Pokhara.

Day 12: Drive or fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

After having a delicious breakfast, head back to Kathmandu. You have the option of either flying or driving to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel. You can follow your arrival in the capital with a sightseeing tour around the valley. You can also shop for gifts in the meanwhile. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

General minimum Tips for Guide and Porter (tipping in Nepal are not obligatory but always trekking staff they hope from you to have tips at the end of the trek and they always do their best make the memorable holiday in Nepal).

Important note:

Travel insurance is mandatory for each member of your group and must include cover of trekking or high alpine insurance, up to 6000m, including helicopter rescue.
Everest Base camp trek is not real adventure trek; but we never know anyone can have health problem anywhere. So, I would like to request you come with good insurance which will even cover helicopter evacuation for in case.
